Of all the mechanical Bolex H16 movie cameras, this is the one for the
budding film-maker to have and to use.
This camera is in spotless condition having had virtually no use. The
lens is gorgeous and silky-smooth, overhauled after I purchased it a few
years ago. The outfit comes in an original Bolex aluminium case
(slightly rough) that is made to contain an entire kit with 400ft reels
(not included). This is the last and the best version of the Bolex SBM
with the large bayonet lens mount and the matching Vario Switar
16-100POE zoom lens. The zoom motor and meter all work.
Accessories include the often-missed combined zoom lever and shutter
release as well as the complete set of Bolex behind-the-lens filters
(the one missing from the packet in the photo is in fact inserted in the
camera body). This SBM also has the Rexo-fade attachment for smooth
fades fitted, the accessory hand-grip and the original wind and rewind
levers. Documentation is supplied for the camera, the lens and the Rexo-fade
among other things.
These cameras are still made and sold by
Bolex in Switzerland
The going price for the SBM as either Super 16 or not is around 15g with
the current equivalent lense. Pretty scary but true. My reserve is about
half of what is being asked for this exact camera and lens combo on the
sites quoted below.
"Extremely rugged bayonet
lens mount. 13 X viewfinder. Built-in, retractable filter slot for
gelatin filters. Model SBM accepts 400ft magazine, MST, ESM, EM and
Tobin crystal motors."
"SBM camera (1970 on), (SB is 100' load only); expect to pay a premium
for the sturdier bayonet mount when compared to the equivalent turret
version. Very sought after to use. The bayonet mount zoom lenses have a
higher value than the equivalent 'c' mount versions. These and
subsequent cameras covered are the most suitable models for Super 16
conversion."
